Ice Fishing

Bluegill

Use: Small Fatheads, Small Rosie Reds, Wax Worms, Mousies, Red Spikes, White Spikes, and Multi Colored Spikes, and Red Worms

Helpful Hints: Fish the edges of weed beds or suspended in deep water.

Crappie and Perch

Use: Small Fatheads, Small Golden Shiners, Small Rosie Reds, Wax Worms, Red Spikes, White Spikes, Multi Colored Spikes Mousies, or Red Worms

Helpful Hints: Fish the edges of weed beds or suspended in deep water.

Northern Pike

Use: Large Golden Shiner, Jumbo Golden Shiner, Northern Sucker

Helpful Hints: Fish the edges of weed lines, just above submerged weed beds, flats near drop offs, or old creek channels working your way from shallow to deep.

Walleye

Use: Large Fatheads, Large Rosie Reds, Medium Golden Shiners, Medium Suckers, Medium Black Tailed Chubs

Helpful Hints: Fish deeper water, the edges of submerged weed beds, the flats near drop offs, or deep water rock bars.

Large Mouth Bass

Use: Medium Golden Shiners, Large Golden Shiners, Medium Suckers

Helpful Hints: Fish the weed beds, weed line, and the top of weed beds.

Trout / Salmon

Use: Medium Golden Shiners, Large Fatheads, Large Rosie Reds, Wax Worms, Spikes

Helpful Hints: For fishing Lake Michigan waters near the harbors and warm water discharge.


Open Water Fishing

Bluegill and Perch

Use: Small Fatheads, Small Rosie Reds, Wax Worms, Red Worms, Jumbo Red Worms, Leaf Worms, Leeches, Pieces of Night Crawlers

Helpful Hints: Fish on the edges of weed beds or may be suspended in deeper water.

Crappie

Use: Small Fatheads, Small Rosie Reds, Small Golden Shiners, Red Worms, Jumbo Red Worms, Leaf Worms

Helpful Hints: Fish weed lines, treetops, or fish cribs submerged in water or they may also be suspended in deep water.

Walleye

Use: Large Fatheads, Large Tuffies, Large Rosie Reds, Small Golden Shiners, Medium Golden Shiners, Medium Suckers, Medium Black Tailed Chubs, Night Crawlers, Large Leeches, Jumbo Leeches

Helpful Hints: In Lakes fish on weed line edges 10-15 feet deep, deep water rock bars, or big flats or the edges of steep drop offs. In rivers fish the mouths of sloughs, current breaks or near wing dams.

Northern Pike

Use: Large Golden Shiners, Extra Large Golden Shiners, Northern Suckers, Odd Suckers, Musky Suckers, Large Black Tailed Chubs

Helpful Hints: Fish the edges of weed lines, submerged tree tops, mouths of feeder creeks, springs, edges of drop offs.

Musky

Use: Odd Suckers, Musky Suckers

Helpful Hints: Fish the edges of weed lines, submerged tree tops, mouths of feeder creeks, springs, or edges of drop offs.

Bass

Use: Small Golden Shiners, Medium Golden Shiners, Large Golden Shiners, Large Fatheads, Extra Large Fatheads, Black Tailed Chubs, Night Crawlers, Green Night Crawlers, Large Leeches, Jumbo Leeches

Helpful Hints: In Lakes/Sloughs fish the tops of weed beds, weed lines, anywhere there are weeds, submerged tree tops. In rivers fish current Breaks, wing dams, rocky shore lines, deep rocky bars.

Trout

Use: Small Fatheads, Small Rosie Reds, Small Golden Shiners, Night Crawlers, Red Trout Worms, Jumbo Red Worms, Red Worms, Green Night Crawlers

Helpful Hints: In creeks fish deep holes and current breaks. In Lakes fish the deeper Bars and steep drop offs.

Catfish

Use: Large Golden Shiners, Jumbo Golden Shiners, Northern Suckers, Odd Suckers, Night Crawlers, Large Leeches, Jumbo Leeches

Helpful Hints: Fish deep holes, current breaks, and wing dams.
